Let's Talk Shop
You know when you watch home improvement shows and you start to think, “that looks pretty easy?” It’s not…. We were able to save some money doing it ourselves, so that was a huge plus. We also have the bragging rights of getting to tell others that we did it together and that our boys helped and did a ton. A huge upside are the memories. Mike is really a jack of all trades and can do anything. Our boys helping is huge, but my dad was there to help and run machines. Ginormous kudos to my Uncle John. He has been a contractor his whole life and is so so good at his craft. He taught Mike and the boys what to do and they just took off. We started the project mid November and the garage was up waiting for doors by mid January. That is pretty awesome considering we were all a bunch of newbie’s. I was the cut girl and got pretty good at reading a tape measure. Pretty proud of myself. Not only did we get an attached garage, I also got my laundry room and walk in closet. Our laundry room was downstairs and I’m not getting any younger. I love it all! Once the garage was complete and the laundry room was roughed in, Mike took over and finished it all. He did the wiring to the lights and outlets. He did all the hook ups and plumbing for the washer and dryer. He then moved to drywall, mud and taping. OH, and all that sanding. He then installed all the lighting. It was then my turn to paint. Once the paint was done, Mike did the tile. I came back and did the grout and sealed the tile. Mike got all my shelves hung on my closet side and I bought some new pieces to make my closet side homey. Don’t even hesitate if you have any questions. I will help as much as I can. If you need a good contractor and near Eudora, Kansas, I can hook you up. Take a look at our progress pics, it was truly a cool experience. Talk to ya later friends!!
